In a time when numbing can look like calm, distancing can masquerade as wisdom, and overwhelm is often close at hand, this course invites us to cultivate the ground needed to stay awake —to suffering, to each other, and to what is being asked of us in these times.

Grounded in Insight Dialogue and Joanna Macys’ Work That Reconnects, we will practice cultivating refuge in awareness, deepening into relationship, and accessing the courage needed to respond to our world with care and clarity.

Together we will explore how to:

  • Discern genuine compassion from its “near enemies”
  • Stay present to grief, anger, fear and overwhelm with ground and resilience.
  • Explore through relational inquiry how we are enlisted into systemic social, economic and political realities
  • Cultivate empathy and recognition of our interdependence as a basis for wise action
  • Transform difficult emotions into fuel for meaningful response

This is a space to be fully human together—to resist moral numbing, to deepen our sense of shared responsibility, and to discover how courageous compassion can move through us in service of a more livable world.
