Anti-Racism Education and Action Team

The purpose of the Insight Dialogue Community (IDC) Anti-Racism Education and Action Team (AREA) is to embody our IDC commitment as an antiracist, multicultural organization. With this intention, we commit to antiracist practices across our community, including all sangha gatherings, Insight Dialogue retreats, and in our organizational structures.

As a growing global community dedicated to spiritual freedom and ethical action, we see that our freedom is linked to the freedom of all beings.

We acknowledge the innumerable ways that grave harm is caused by systemic racism. To engage relational Dhamma practice as a whole-life path,  the IDC commits to unraveling our internal racial conditioning, and works towards decolonizing our hearts, minds, and sangha. In this lifelong learning path, we aspire to a more integrated and balanced life with all people and the natural world.

With this overarching intention, our community commits to de-centering and dismantling white supremacy culture and acting for racial justice. Through this essential work, we share the radical intention of transforming human consciousness.

AREA ongoing commitments include:

  1. Supporting Black Indigenous and People of Color Insight Dialogue Dharma community development throughout the world, including support of ID Sanghas in the Global South. A key component of this commitment is devoting resources to Black Indigenous and People of Color Insight Dialogue teachers and facilitators.
  2. Supporting the emergence of racial and cultural affinity groups, as well as gatherings that bring together racially and culturally diverse members of our global sangha.
  3. Integrating awareness and education about the harm caused by white supremacy culture and the benefit of dismantling it as an intrinsic part of awakening. We will identify mechanisms that cultivate this awareness in Insight Dialogue teachers and facilitators, individual practitioners, practice cohorts and organizational leadership.
  4. Continuing support for lD-based antiracist learning programs for white-bodied people, i.e., the Awakening White Awareness Cohort.
  5. Encouraging Right Action in the form of social justice engagement.

The AREA Team is a group of Insight Dialogue Community members residing in Australia, Canada, and the United States. The team has a culture of consensus and spiritual friendship, incorporating Insight Dialogue practice into our meetings. Our lives are touched deeply by this important work, and we welcome new voices and perspectives. If you are interested in joining us, please email info@3.wilder.one.
